Arlington T Stop

Arlington T Stop Opening Ceremony

by Shuki Haiminis on June 1, 2009

This morning I was fortunate enough to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Arlington T Stop. The sun was shinning and a good sized crowd of public officials as well as the general public were in attendance.

Everyone involved in the project did a tremendous job making this station more accessible to people of all abilities.  The architect is Leers Weinzapfel Associates of Boston.

After 90 years open, Arlington Station is now fully ADA accessible after an investment of $22.7m with 3 brand new elevators, new head-houses and stairways, brand new columns, and new electrical throughout the station.  The grills on the sidewalks near the station were modified to meet ADA regulations.

One of the highlights was a new glass encased elevator  that makes both people in wheel chairs as well as parents with strollers able to get down to the platform level much easier.
